PANEL RENEWS COMMITMENT TO GREEN500 AND BBP

The 2010 Business Brunch meeting opened with an excellent speech by Jonathon Porrit, who was slightly delayed due to the bad weather and the many potholes that are currently studding the roads of most UK cities. Mr Porritt highlighted the need to detach the current climate crisis from hard science and its related disputes, emphasising instead the benefits of carbon reduction schemes like Green500 and BBP to businesses, in order to save money as well as spawning a new, greener, economy.
Isabel Dedring, Advisor to the Mayor of London, highlighted the Mayor’s vision for a greener capital, with emphasis on trasport, waste management and emissions reduction. Ms Dedring stressed the importance that schemes like Green500 and BBP had in order to achieve the ambitious Mayoral’s goals.
Emma Wild, from the CBI, looked at the broader business perspective related to environmental policies, while Tim Curtis of AEA reported on the progress achieved by Green500 in the 2009/10 period, as well as announcing new award winners. John Flowers from Eversheds introduced a Green500 case study based on their new offices and their “green roof”. The presentation continued with a report from Paul Harrington, of Price Waterhouse Cooper, who highlighted key aspects of the “landlord vs. tenants” relationship vis-à-vis buildings environmental efficiency. Finally, Peter Clark, Chairman of the BBP group reported on their activities.
The meeting ended on a high note with renewed commitment from all parties on Green500 and BBP and was followed by a light networking lunch.
